How do the teams and age levels work?

Age level groupings are based on the year a player was born. Team structure, roster size, number of games, and practice formats vary by age and are guided by the USA Hockey ADM.

Termite- Between the ages 4-6 by Jan 1st of the current year
  • Introduces kids to the game of hockey by focusing on fun, creative games and cross-ice scrimmages
  • 2 practices per week
  • 1 home tournament; usually 1-2 away tournaments
  • Cross-ice game format with smaller goals, no goalies, and youth blue pucks
  • Teams balanced by skill

Mite -Between the ages 7-8 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • More structured skill development and an understanding of the rules
  • 2 practices per week plus one in-house league game per week
  • 1 home tournament; typically 1-2 away tournaments
  • Cross-ice game format with youth blue pucks; penalties are enforced; clock stops for line changes
  • Teams balanced by skill

Squirt -Between the ages 9-10 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • Squirts continue to develop their hockey skills and understanding of the game
  • 3-4 practices per week
  • Up to 20 games in the season including 1 home tournament; typically 2 away tournaments
  • Team tryouts; players receive equal playing time
  • Standard game format and rules

PeeWee -Between the ages 11-12 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • State league level play
  • 3-4 practices per week
  • 35 games, including a home tournament and 2 away tournaments
  • Team tryouts
  • Standard game format and rules

Girls 14U  -Between the ages 10-14 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • State league level play
  • 2-3 practices per week
  • 40 games, including a home tournament and 2 away tournaments
  • Team tryouts
  • Standard game format and rules

Bantam  -Between the ages 13-14 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • State league level play
  • 5 practices per week
  • 40 games, including a home tournament and 2 away tournaments
  • Team tryouts
  • Standard game format and rules

Girls JV/Varsity  -Between the ages 15-19 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • State league level play
  • 5 practices per week
  • 45 games
  • Team tryouts; players may be rostered on both teams
  • Standard game format and rules

JV/Varsity -Between the ages 15-19 by Jan 1st of the current year

  • State league level play
  • 5 practices per week
  • 45 games, including a home tournament and 2 away tournaments
  • Team tryouts; players may be rostered on both teams
